The Fox’s Summer Bucket List

With just under one month left of Summer, we are well into working through our summer bucket list over here at the Fernie Fox. There is so much to do over the summer here in Fernie that we feel we always run out of time. But not to worry the Fall, in our eyes, is one of the best seasons to squeeze those last bucket list activities in – with less crowds, a better temps, and did we mention, less crowds?

This year the Fox has been venturing through his checklist with some awesome activities:

  1. You can’t visit Fernie on a sunny day without a float down the Elk River. Something to be enjoyed by jumping into whatever floating device you can find, sipping on your favourite beverage and relaxing while the river does the work for you. The Fox recommends you launch at the beach by the RV park or by the north bridge (Leo T Nimsick Bridge) and finish up at James White Park – or if you’re wanting a longer adventure, go even further and dock at the Stanford Apartments.

  1. The classic summer activities of mountain biking and hiking, which Fernie is renowned for with some of the best mountain biking and hiking in the Canadian Rockies. There is a diverse selection of trails that cater to all levels of experience and fitness, so if you’re new to mountain life or are a mountain enthusiast, you’ll be sure to stumble across a trail just right for you. If you’re up for it, the “Trails to Ales” is a seasonal bucket list item on many locals’ “must do” lists.
  2.  We just love the patio sunsets at the downtown bars and restaurants, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the sun setting behind the mountain range. If you’re looking to make your own epic summer feast, the Fernie Fox Hotel has a great BBQ and deck space for you and the family to sit back and relax during your stay.
  3. There is always time for a little shopping in downtown Fernie. You’ll find a load of stores ranging from bookstores and art co-ops to bike and ski shops, to clothing and specialty chocolate boutiques. You’ll be sure to pick up something unique.
  4. We couldn’t have a bucket list without whitewater rafting. Fernie has two companies to choose from – Mountain High Adventures and Canyon Raft Company – who will fulfil all your white water rafting needs.

So make the most of your next stay here and create your very own Fernie Bucket List. There’s even more inspiration over at tourismfernie.com.
