Fall in Fernie

Fernie is known for its distinct seasonal weather, owning its recognition as ‘the’ place to be for a variety of activities; from shredding the slopes in the winter to the abundance of long days biking and hiking in the summer. But the Fall can sometimes be forgotten in the excitement of it all, and, this where the hidden gems are found.

With fewer crowds than the peak of summer, crisp morning air, a dusting of snow on mountain tops and the valley filled with auburn colour, the Fall in Fernie is one of the most underrated times of the year.

There are many hiking trails within a few kilometre radius of town, which range from a beginner’s fitness level to the well-known, heart-pounding and jaw-dropping tracks such as the famous Heiko’s Trail.

There are plenty of other great hikes, without the commitment of Heiko’s, but with some captivating views to experience. Trails such as Fairy Creek Falls and Montane Hut offer fantastic views and travel through unique scenery. These are more relaxed and you can enjoy every step of the way, suitable for the whole family to enjoy.

On the days you want to unwind, there is still plenty to do around town. With the small bars and cafes being brought back to life, support local and dine in, or if you prefer take-away and sit in one of the large open spaces by the majestic Elk River, as the sun slips behind the mountain tops.

With social distancing measures still in place, ensure to plan your trip ahead of time, and keep up to date with any local information by following Tourism Fernie.
