You will notice that we do not have any tent cards or information binders in our guest rooms. We take our responsibility to our local community and the environment seriously. In addition to reducing the use of paper, and moving our guest information brochures and pamplets online, we have invested in the following actions to minimize our carbon footprint, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and decrease our property’s energy consumption:

  • We have a written environmental and responsible tourism policy document.
  • We have an ongoing internal energy audit, and regularly implement changes based on results.
  • All fridges are left unplugged in guest rooms when not in use.
  • We have replaced all incandescent light bulbs with new LED bulbs.
  • We have installed LED lighting behind all signage.
  • We have purchased the most efficient hot water heater on the market “The Cyclone”.
  • Replaced hotel linen washer and dryers with latest-model energy-efficient versions.
  • All laundry is done in cold water.
  • We have installed flow restrictors on showerheads and taps.
  • We have a guest towel reuse/bed linen changing program in place to save water.
  • We do not use throwaway dishes for breakfast.
  • We have implemented a solid waste diversion program for guests and staff members.
  • We do not use plastic bag liners in guest room garbage cans. The cans are wiped down every day.
  • We have replaced individual bottles of shampoo and conditioner with dispensers.
  • All of our room cleaning chemicals are environmentally friendly
  • We use active ion to clean most surfaces.
  • We shop local as much as possible.
  • We encourage guests to buy products that are made locally.

Future Procedures

In the next five years we aim to:

  • Implement a policy of purchasing low energy equipment for electrical devices such as fridges, TV’s microwaves.
  • Implement  measures to ensure that our energy supply does not adversely impact on the energy supply for local residents.
  • Have an energy management system installed to turn lights and air conditioning off in empty guest rooms.
  • Avoid using single use condiments (jam, butter, etc.) with more packaging, in favor of reusable containers.
  • Support and actively contribute to local community development projects.
  • Educate guests about how they can make a positive contribution to local biodiversity and conservation efforts.
  • Encourage guests to explore the destination beyond the boundaries of the property.
  • Include environmental aspects into employee training, such as how to reduce energy, water and waste.
